The DHS women’s volleyball team headed on the road on September 11th to face Granite Bay for their third straight game of the week. They entered the gym to loud music and a large Granite Bay home crowd.
The team lost in three sets, however, each set getting closer and closer in score. They lost the first set 17-25 and the last set only 21-25.
The matchup against Granite Bay is Davis’ second league game of the season. Despite losses in their first two league games, there are still twelve more league games for this talented DHS team to take on.
“I think coming into this new league our team doesn’t really know what to expect from each team because we’ve never played them before,” junior Juliana Van Boxtel said in a phone interview.
The Blue Devils were undefeated up until this week, where they’ve faced two losses in their last three games. Their first loss was against Folsom on Monday, losing in three extremely tight sets.
After their first loss, the team redeemed themselves on the road against Pioneer: winning 3-1. Although, once again DHS couldn’t get the outcome they hoped for against Granite Bay.
The game on Wednesday night had its highs, but also had its lows. Two points into the game junior outside Isabella Garma-Murphy injured her ankle. As a result, she had to support her team from the sidelines for the rest of the game.
Garma-Murphy’s injury left her with senior middle Kaylie Adams who was also not able to play due to a knee injury.
Missing two exceptional starting players was not ideal for Davis, yet they still persevered and supported each other through all three sets.
