This Tuesday, Sept. 24, Davis High women’s tennis defeated Rocklin High 8-1 in a crushing match.
Out of the nine matches of the day, Davis only lost once, with scores such as 6-0 to 7-5. They came out of the game with a 7-point gap and won another game on their path to sectional championships and their final league tournament.
Davis has been on a recent winning streak, thriving in their new league, only losing one game to Granite Bay High School.
“I have high hopes since our team has been on a winning streak. We won every game except against Granite Bay, however we still have a chance to play them again during the second round of the league,” said junior Inkyung Hwang.
Tennis is generally played as a fall sport throughout many high schools. Though, the fall heat has been exceptionally warm this year with scorching temperatures of 100 degrees fahrenheit or higher on average. While many students feel irritated by the heat, tennis players also feel the heat retained by the asphalt of the tennis courts, which can affect their performance.
“The heat was definitely getting to me. It was like 100 [degrees] today and basically a bit higher because on the courts it gets hotter, so it was difficult to play, and I played for a long time because my game went pretty long,” said Hwang.
However, Davis has persevered through the heat compared to previous years.
“This year is better because [in] the last couple of years, we had to cancel a lot of matches due to the hot heat,” said Hwang.
