The Davis High men's varsity volleyball team fell to the Granite Bay Grizzlies 3-1 on Wednesday, Mar. 4. This was the second game of the first of two times around the SFL.
Seniors Mohammad Reggad and Ryan Buzbee demonstrated exceptional court awareness in serving, setting, and defense, showcasing many standout plays throughout the game.
Although Granite Bay had a strong offense, Davis pushed back and adjusted to their skillful tactics, keeping the score close.
Near the end of the exciting first set, Senior Cole Abrams stepped up and had a long serving run, challenging Granite Bay’s serve receive line. The set ended successfully with a score of 25-18, with the team earning the final point with a kill.
In the second set, Junior Meyer Nitzin stepped up and played aggressively, earning many points for the team, while Junior Yifu Liu made scrappy, controlled plays in the back row. The second set ended in a loss for Davis with a score of 25-23.
In the third set, Senior Bryce Morrow had strong offense and precise out-of-system hitting, scoring three points in a row for the team. The third set ended with a loss for Davis, 25-15.
In the fourth and final set, the Grizzlies challenged the Blue Devils with their strong offense and grit. Davis continued to fight on. The fourth set ended in a loss, 25-15.
“I feel that both teams are making adaptations and were able to make a change that we weren’t able to adjust to,” said head coach Isaac Rivera.
Davis will head to Whitney High School in Rocklin on Monday, Mar. 9, at 6:00pm to continue their first round of league play.
