On Tuesday night, the Davis High School girls and boys soccer teams did something they haven’t done all season — hosted a doubleheader.

One of the Blue Devil teams had a strong rally toward the end of the second half, but it wasn’t enough. The other came away as the winner.

Ron and Mary Brown Stadium was the site of the California Interscholastic Federation State Soccer Championship regional playoff games. Both DHS squads earned the top seeds; the girls in D-II and the boys in D-I.

Here is a recap of Tuesday’s games.

Girls: Las Lomas 3, DHS 2
Davis striker Madison Lujan scored the second goal in the 74th minute, which tied the game at 2-2. Lujan, a senior, took the shot when the Las Lomas goalie shifted toward the other side of the box. Lujan gained control of the loose ball after teammate

The tie lasted only two minutes.

Las Lomas, out of Walnut Creek, responded when a midfielder found her way to the center of the box in front of DHS goalkeeper Aubrey McLin, a four-year starter, at the south end of the stadium. McLin leaped to her right side of the net to snag the ball. But the ball, a line drive shot, went into the net for a 3-2 score.

Davis (9-5-5) created more open shots on offense most of the second half, tried frantically to get the ball shifted toward Las Lomas’ net at the north end of the stadium in the final four minutes against Las Lomas (19-3-1)

Davis’ first goal came at the 61st minute of the game when midfielder Kelsie Gee, only a freshman, quickly booted the ball that hit the lower part of the bar and rolled into the net. Gee’s goal cut Las Lomas’ lead to 2-1.

Las Lomas, which is the No. 8 seed, scored its second goal in the early minutes of the second half. Its first goal was produced in the early minutes of the first half.

“We were just trying to create offense,” said DHS head coach Sara Stone. “We had chances, and that’s all you can ask for.”

Despite the quick exit from the regional playoffs, Stone is very pleased with how strong her squad performed in the playoffs.

“We had a lot of success late in the year,” Stone said. “We had a good, stellar senior group. Just good leaders on and off the field. They were very impactful in the field.”

The seniors who walked off the turf for their final prep soccer game were Lujan, McLin, Jordan Meade, Caitlyn Garcia, Izzy Churchward, and Isabella Hazel.

The game was delayed for more than an hour, as Las Lomas’ bus broke down en route from the Bay Area to Yolo County.

Boys: DHS 2, Sanger 0
The DHS boys squad did all its scoring against No. 8 Sanger in the first half.

Krisztian Anderson gave DHS (15-4-3) a 2-0 lead toward the end of the half on a penalty kick. Subhan Rahini scored the first goal earlier in the first half.

The Blue Devils advance to the semifinals on Thursday, hosting No. 4 Mountain View, which defeated No. 5 Rocklin 3-2.
