The Davis High Wrestling Team hosted Granite Bay on Wednesday night. The Grizzlies would defeat Davis 62-9. The score doesn't tell the whole story. With the league meet next week, several Davis wrestlers would sit out to heal and rest. This night was about the Seniors. They were celebrated in a ceremony before the match.

On the mat, the Devils were being shut out until a flurry of wins at the end of the line-up helped Davis finish on a high note. Jonas Rohr would start things off in the 157 division. Getting an early lead, Rohr would battle through last-round fatigue. He posted a 7-1 win to get Davis on the board. Hard-fought decisions by Flynn Smith-Lottritz (165) and Henry Rosendale (175) would give Davis three straight wins. This gave the Devils something to cheer about.

The match of the night involved Freshman Alexander Takei. He would fall behind 10-1 in the first two rounds. But he would make a furious comeback that would get everyone on their feet. He tied the match 12-12 with only a few seconds left in the final period. He would lose in extra time, but he won over the crowd. Coach Ben Davis said, "He showed a lot of heart. As a freshman, he is definitely someone to keep an eye on."

Family and friends gather together on this night to celebrate the prep careers of the seniors. Mihn Bernier, a senior captain, shared, "Wrestling has meant a community of people to me. It taught me real competition and fighting. I will take the dedication and ethic required in wrestling. I’ve done many things in life, but nothing has been as hard as wrestling. I will carry the ability to work hard for life."

On the girls' side, senior Mia Perez spoke about her time at Davis. She said, "Wrestling at DHS has been an amazing experience. I've made so many connections and friendships through the team. All my coaches have been great role models and very supportive.”

In addition to Perez and Bernier, the other seniors are: Yoriko Campero-Shiraishi. The Blue Devil grapplers will be back in action on February 6th at the SFL Championships.
