Friday night lights hit different when you are in an arena packed with Cheer Teams from all over Northern California. The Blue Devil Varsity Cheer squad traveled to the Adventist Health Arena in Stockton on Friday, January 9th, to compete in the JAMZ Friday Night Lights-Showdown.

Both JV and Varsity Cheer squads competed together in the first event, the Gameday Sideline Performance Cheer. The Blue Devils defeated West Park in their head-to-head matchup.

After a brief break, the main event, the Varsity Level One competition, was up. The Blue Devils got in their warm-ups and waited for their turn. The nerves were there, but focus and excitement ruled the evening. The PA announcer called them to the stage, and the music was cued. The team was on point from the beginning. The stunts were executed perfectly with the bases and flyers all in sync. The tumbles, jumps, and motions were sharp and energetic.

The Blue Devils ended up "Hitting Zero," meaning there were no deductions for mistakes, which is the holy grail in Cheer. When the final scores were tallied, Davis High Cheer won their Division, Varsity Level 1, and were awarded Level 1 Champs, which includes JV and Coed squads. To top off the great evening, they were named Grand Champs, the highest award, beating all levels.
