The Davis High women's varsity volleyball team defeated the Turlock Bulldogs with a score of 3-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 28.

The game kicked off at 6:00pm and marked the first round of the 2025 CIF Sac-Joaquin girls volleyball playoffs for the Blue Devils. As the 8th seed, they got the opportunity to host the game at home in the South Gym.

Seniors Isabella Garma-Murphy and Cate Wells had exceptional court awareness when they were up to block, as well showcasing many of their standout kills.

Although Turlock not only had strong defense, their offense was difficult to read, however Davis pushed through and managed to adjust to their skillful tactics.

Near the end of the thrilling first set, junior Logan Kwong stepped up and had a five point serving run, challenging Turlock’s defense. The set ended successfully with senior captain Juliana Van Boxtel earning the final point for the team with a kill.

“We’re making smart plays, our energy is up, and we’re hoping to take them down in three sets based on our performance from the last set”, varsity head coach Isaac Rivera remarked.

The end of the second set had reached a score of 24-23 with Davis having the lead, eventually winning by a net violation called on Turlock with an ending score of 25-23.

In the third set, junior Emma Phillips and senior Lauren Lin had strong defense as well as precise out of system setting, allowing them to build a stronger connection with their wing hitters when assisting them. The third and final set ended with a free ball kill initiated by Phillips.

“I feel like we had our ups and downs but we stayed persistent throughout our game and we pushed through in the end,” senior Catherine Hanson said.

Davis will head out to Folsom High School on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 6:00pm to battle the Sierra Foothill League’s second place team for the second round of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs.
