The Davis Senior High women’s varsity volleyball team lost to Rocklin 0-3 on Oct. 20.
Monday’s game against Rocklin High School marked the Blue Devils’ second to last game of the season before Wednesday, and was hosted in the South Gym.
Despite their loss, they never gave up and fought for every point no matter the score.
Senior Juliana Van Boxtel had a long serving run in the first set and brought the score up from 5-11 to 11-11, allowing Davis to gain control.
The score was neck and neck, with both teams refusing to give up the serve. It ended as a dynamic first set for both Davis and Rocklin, with Davis falling short with a score of 22-25.
Rocklin had a strong lead in the second set keeping Davis under nine points for the majority of the time with Rocklin eventually winning the second set 25-14
“We’re playing good consistent volleyball especially since they have a height advantage over us and it's pushing us to play faster and smarter”, said assistant coach Grace Heringer
Midway through the third set, Davis trailed Rocklin, 10-20.
Junior Isabella Sultana stepped up and had many standout kills, and senior Mia Salvemini was highly effective at finding many openings in the block, especially at the three-gap. The two earned more points for the team, allowing them to recover and come back at this time in the game.
“I think we played with good energy and were matching them and playing to their level and made very few mistakes, especially at the beginning”, said senior Analise Anasco
Davis will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 6:30pm for their last game of the season and Senior Night against St. Francis.
