The varsity women’s soccer team defeats non-league opponent Franklin High 1-0 in their second game of the season
Although Franklin kicked the game off, Davis had a stronger start. Early into the first half, senior captain Miya Alamares cross found senior Audrey Aguirre, who scored, putting the Devils up 1-0.
For the rest of the first half, neither side had many chances on goal, and Davis went into halftime with the lead.
Despite a one-goal advantage, the Devils had to make tactical adjustments to deal with Franklin's high press. "Due to their high pressure we were trying to quickly bypass by playing a direct forward ball," head coach Sara Stone said.
At the break, sophomore Donica Sisco was subbed in for junior keeper Aubrey McLin.
Sisco was crucial to the team's defense in the second half, making many saves late in the game. "Defense wins games, so we're constantly wanting to be sharp defensively," Stone said.
As this was only the second game of the season, the team hasn't fully gelled. "We're still trying to figure out how to play with each other," senior Kailani Compton said. "But I think overall we did good for the beginning of the season,"
The Devils look to continue their winning streak next Tuesday, Dec. 17, when they play Granite Bay for their first league game of the season.
