Davis High varsity women’s lacrosse won 22-11 against Granite Bay on Mar. 6. The Blue Devils are now 2-0 in league play.

With 3 minutes and 31 seconds left in the first half, Davis had just won the face-off following a Granite Bay goal. The score stood at 9-7, with Davis fighting to regain momentum.

Junior Izzy Churchward sprinted down the field after the face-off, throwing the ball to senior Elise Thompson who spun around her defender and scored.

In the following possession, sophomore Faith Heringer dodged her defender and received the ball right in front of the goal, scoring her first of four goals that night.

Continuing the scoring streak, senior Katie McMullen sidestepped Granite Bay defenders before sending the ball into the back of the net, extending Davis’ lead to 12-7. Davis had fully recovered from Granite Bay’s early scoring run.

“(During Granite Bay’s scoring run) we calmed down, settled the ball, and made sure we were really careful with what we were doing so we weren’t just giving it up easily,” Heringer said.

The Blue Devils tight defense and multiple assisted goals is a product of strong team chemistry. “We’re all really close and we have a lot of team bonding events. I think that just adds to our chemistry (on the field)” junior Olivia Ayson said.

McMullen led the Blue Devils in scoring, contributing to a total of eight goals, while Ayson followed closely with five goals.

The Blue Devils closed the game with a final score of 22-11, securing their second league victory by an 11-point margin.
