The men’s soccer team extended their season on Feb. 21 with a 5-2 win over Sheldon in their quarterfinal playoff game. Davis is now set to face Central Valley on Feb. 26, vying for a spot in the finals.

The game kicked off with both teams displaying aggressive attacks on goal, but it was Sheldon who struck first, finding the net just 13 minutes in.

The Devils responded quickly. Senior Josh Morris scored a penalty kick after being fouled by a Sheldon defender.

Four minutes later, senior Nate King capitalized on the aftermath of a freekick, giving Davis the lead. With 13 minutes left in the first half, junior Subhan Rahimi scored off a flurry of deflections from the Sheldon keeper.

The Devils opened up the second half with a goal from freshman Cruz Gonzalez. The team continued to play at a good tempo in the second half and defended the long ball well.

With less than 10 minutes left, both teams scored one more time. For Davis, it was King again, securing his second goal of the night.

?“I really didn’t see anyones head drop after Sheldon’s first goal,” King said. “If anything it kind of woke us up.”

Davis has outscored their opponents 11-2 in their first two playoff games. King believes this early playoff success has come from a collective focus from the team.

“In league we got our eyes opened by Whitney who beat us twice,” King said. “We realized we have the talent to beat anyone, we just have to come out here and prove that.”
