On Jan. 29, the Davis High women’s basketball team fell 77-27 to Folsom, the second best division one program in California according to MaxPreps.
After winning the tip off, Folsom started the scoring 45 seconds into the game with a layup. The quarter ended with Folsom leading 17-3.
The next quarter was the highest scoring section of the game with Folsom outscoring the Blue Devils 30-13.
Folsom’s shooting guard, Dixie McLanahan, who is also committed to Army, racked up half her team’s points in the second quarter. “She hurt us in the second quarter,” Highshoe said.
At the end of the second quarter, Davis had a 6-point scoring run with four of these points coming from junior Suhela Lamba. Even with a positive period, the Devils ended the half down 31 points.
Throughout the game, Davis had many passing sequences but struggled to find the basket against Folsom’s rock solid defense. “We still had opportunities, and we were in the right positions,” senior Natalie Roessler said.
Folsom continued their dominance into the second half. After a buzzer beater 3-pointer from freshman Lorelei Nachman, the third quarter ended 70-25.
There was little action in the fourth quarter, and the game ended 77-27.
Despite the result, the players had improved from the 90-24 loss earlier in the season against Folsom. “We knew what we were facing coming into this game, and we tried to make some adjustments from the first time we played them,” head coach Heather Highshoe said.
The Blue Devils will look to bounce back on Jan. 31 against Oak Ridge.
