The Davis High women's field hockey team swept the Bella Vista Broncos on their senior night on Oct. 30, 2-0, continuing its league shutout.
“We knew it was going to be a big game,” coach Beth Hogan said. DHS had not been scored on the whole league season, and wanted to keep up its streak.
Bella Vista is one of the most competitive teams they have played this season. The last match against the Broncos went into overtime.
The DHS team commenced senior night by recognizing their three seniors: Aurora Hogan, Audrey Takei and Hayley Smith. The varsity and jv teams created a tunnel for the seniors to run through and receive a crown and sash.
The first quarter was an intense battle. Five minutes in, Hogan scored the first goal of the game.
Both teams played tight defense throughout the game. Sophomore goalie Kiera Chang blocked several close attempts from the Broncos.
Seven minutes into the fourth quarter, Hogan scored the second goal of the night, ensuring Davis’s win.
“It was cool to end with a bang,” sophomore Kate Loscutoff said.
After the match, the Blue Devils celebrated their victory and snapped pictures with their beloved seniors.
“Senior night is always emotional […] but the team worked hard and left it on the field,” coach Hogan said.
