The Davis High women's field hockey team won against Red Bluff High School 10-0 Thursday Oct. 17, at the annual pink-out game.
Junior Bridget Berland kicked off the game, scoring the first point for the Blue Devils. “I felt like I brought some good energy,” Berland said.
The Red Bluff Spartans were unable to make a comeback and DHS ended the game winning 10-0. This was the Devils’ second win against the Spartans, beating its previous score of 9-0 by one point.
Even though Davis led the whole game, players still gave their all. “Everybody played with really high intensity,” senior and captain Hayley Smith said. “We were able to implement a lot of new strategies we have been working on in practice.”
Having won the game by a considerably large margin for field hockey, DHS players were asked to hold back. “I want to promote the game… so I try and stop at ten up,” coach Elizabeth Hogan said, “because we went up 6 in the first quarter… a lot of players played new positions.”
The wind proved to be a challenge given the light weight of the goals, players had to scramble to fix without interfering with any plays.
DHS is currently ranked 12th in all of California for field hockey.
