On Thursday, Sept. 19, Davis High’s women's varsity flag football team hosted its first Homecoming game in history. Davis fell short against the Whitney Wildcats, 19-21.
The game started off with senior Boyeon Choi stealing the opposing team's flag twice within the first two minutes of the game.
Whitney made the first touch making the score 0-6. Soon followed senior Olivia Koehler, who zoomed past two defenders coming at her at the same time, and dodged a third defender before making the touchdown, tying the score to 6-6
First-year player senior Allison Hulbert made a touchdown and left the score 13-6, putting Davis in the lead for the first half. “I felt really good, it's a play that’s pretty new and I was super excited that we got to run it,” Hulbert said.
In the second half, Davis defenders huddled up to make a game plan for the last four minutes before subbing in for their teammates.
Junior Soni Clayton ran all the way across the field, making a touchdown 19-21 in the last couple minutes, giving Davis a final chance to win. Davis called a time-out with 34 seconds remaining, planning to make a final touchdown. Unfortunately, time ran out and Davis fell short by two points.
“I think overall, offense did well, the defense came together and overall we did really well as a team,” junior Seneca Wattanapanich said.
