On Friday, Davis High’s men’s varsity football team took on Hiram Johnson High School at an exciting home game.

The Devils scored a touchdown in the beginning minutes of the first quarter, quickly setting the tone for what would come later in the game.

The Devil’s would continue to stay in the lead, going up 14-0 in the first quarter. In the beginning of the second, junior David Dirksen would find senior J.P. Baker for a 40 yard touchdown, once again scoring for the Devils.

DHS entered the third quarter with a score of 35-7 over Hiram Johnson and an exceptional play from junior Noah Wittenberg, gaining 44 yards for the Devils, leading them to the 1 yard line. On the very next play, the Devils scored a touchdown by Wittenberg.

Davis later threw an interception, causing Hiram Johnson to score a pick-six, making the score 42-13.

However, before the beginning of the 4th quarter, the game took an unexpected recess. The lights in the DHS stadium cut out. Students began waving their phone flashlights with the band continuing to play.

After several minutes of confusion, principal Bryce Geigle would announce that the game had been canceled. The reason for the outage is still unknown.

“We were relieved because we felt bad for embarrassing the other (team)” senior starter kicker Riyad Mahdi said.
